A Place Called Home

We all need somewhere to live, and while most people love to own the walls that surround them, this isn't always possible. It may be because your work keeps you on the move, or because you're still finding your feet in a new location, renovating a place, or just not able to commit to the cost of a purchase. Regardless of the reason, you still need somewhere to live.

LANDLORDS & TENANTS

Rented accommodation is a very convenient way to find a place to stay, quickly and affordably. Generally, rental contracts for short-term furnished accommodation differ considerably from long-term rental of an empty place and it helps to understand how the system works - there may be local norms that you don't expect.

AngloINFO can help. The INFOrmation Page on Renting a House or Apartment in Hong Kong guides you through the process, from house hunting to what to expect from a lease agreement, as well as details on the responsibilities of a tenant and the duties of a landlord.

To help you find a place to stay, see the Property Rental & Housing Agents and Serviced Apartments categories of The AngloFILE directory of English-speaking businesses, where you'll find agents specialising in rental accommodation.

Browse through the Real Estate: For Rent section of the Classifieds to see if anything suitable is available, or you can post a message in the Classifieds category Real Estate: Wanted and outline your requirements; other locals may have - or know of - something available.

Finally, to help you understand the abbreviations used in rental ads and notices, take a look at the Property Jargon Guide.
