Monday 17th March 2008Time Out!Public holiday, bank holiday, call it what you will, days off and long weekends such as the Easter break coming up this weekend can be a beacon on a worker's annual calendar. Hong Kong has 17 official national holidays over the course of a year. What's open, what's notThe major public holidays reflect the melange of Eastern and Western cultures that make Hong Kong the dynamic place it is. In Hong Kong, as in some other countries (notably the UK), when a public holidays falls on a Sunday it is replaced by a day off the subsequent Monday. This is not always the case though - when the Chinese New Year falls on a Sunday, the previous Saturday is taken as a holiday.
And if you want to make the most of the coming break, find out about special events in the region by browsing the What's On Guide.
