When a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following day is designated a national holiday. However there may be exceptions, for example when the Chinese New Year falls on a Sunday, the Saturday before is taken as a public holiday.

Note: It is only compulsory for employers to give 12 of the 17 public holidays to their employees (statutory holidays).

Note: Following the transfer of sovereignty, Commonwealth Day and the birthday anniversary of Dr Sun Yat Sen, were replaced by two other public holidays: Labour Day and the National Day of the People's Republic of China.
